Golf: West Edinburgh rivals quick on the draw

THE two latest matches in the West Edinburgh Winter League both ended in 2-2 draws, leaving it all very tight in the battle for top spot in the two sections.

In a match that saw the visitors include three sets of brothers in their line-up, Baberton and Bruntsfield Links shared the spoils at Juniper Green, while Turnhouse and Royal Burgess couldn't be separated in their clash either. Ron Bradly and Colin Turner delivered the pivotal point in the first of those matches, recovering from being three down with five to play against the Rolland brothers, Michael and David, to win on the last. For the record, Euan and Murray Paterson and Neil and Derek Millar were the other sets of siblings involved for the visitors.

In another tight encounter, Stephen Buckley and Varun Varadharajan won the top match for Royal Burgess on the last hole at Turnhouse against Olly McCrone and Paul Pentland. The home side won the next two matches in the order but Scott MacDonald and Brian Tait won 3 and 2 at the bottom against Steven Robb and Gordon Leitch to earn the draw.

In the next games, scheduled for next Sunday, Dalmhoy entertain Baberton while Turnhouse travel to Ratho Park.
