Golf: West Course spoils shared

EUROPEAN Senior Tour star Andrew Oldcorn shared the scratch spoils in the Edinburgh & East of Scotland Alliance event over the West Course at Dalmahoy.

The former PGA champion’s five-under-par 63 was matched by Craig Gordon, the former Ratho Park man who is now attached to Edinburgh Golf Centre. The pair finished two shots ahead of Craigielaw pro Ryan Buckley, with Elie’s David Patrick and Hirsel trainee Daniel Wood both carding 66.

It was a day to remember for Wood, who had a hole-in-one, his first as a professional, at the 116 yard 16th.

On a day when 107 players turned out, the main prize up for grabs was the Pitreavie Trophy. That was claimed by Daniel Ariens, the third time a piece of silverware has been claimed by a Falkirk Tryst member this season. He signed for a 63 off nine to win by a single shot from three players: John Denham (Galashiels), Richard Myles (Prestonfield) and Peter Sewell (West Linton).

Top trainee was Richard MacKenzie-Smith (Kings Acre) with 72, while the senior prize went to Duddingston’s Steve Gilhooley with a net 66 off seven.
