Golf: Washout puts dent in Kerr's Johnnie Walker ambitions

MARK KERR'S hopes of landing a spot in next year's Johnnie Walker Championship have been "dented" by the final two rounds of the Aberdeen Northern Open being washed out at Meldrum House.

The Marriott Dalmahoy man was hoping to make a charge through the field in the final 36 holes only to be left bitterly disappointed when the event was ended prematurely due to the weather.

"It is a real dent to my chance of finishing in the top seven on this year's Tartan Tour Order of Merit and earn a place back at Gleneagles," admitted Kerr after finishing in a tie for 20th.

"I was desperate for points this week and I was massively disappointed about what happened, though the course was sodden from the start and simply couldn't take the amount of rain that had fallen on it overnight."

Kerr's last chance to catapult himself up the standings will be the Gleneagles Scottish Championship in three weeks time.

"I just hope we get better weather for that and we get to play four rounds," he added. "Two-round shoot-outs don't suit me as I'm more of a grinder."

Paul McKechnie (Braid Hills) and Alan Reid (West Lothian) finished as the leading Lothians players at Meldrum House, each earning 1366 for tying for fifth behind winner Greig Hutcheon.
