Golf: Turnhouse don’t half leave it late to set up right Royal final

HOME advantage was made to count as Turnhouse and Royal Burgess set up a title showdown in the West Edinburgh Winter Golf League.

Turnhouse pipped Baberton 2…-1… in their semi-final while Burgess thumped Kingsknowe 4-0 at Barnton.

It was close all the way at Turnhouse and came down to the final match, which saw home pairing Steve Robb and Tommy Cadger up against Andy Laurence and Ron Bradly.

In a nip-and-tuck encounter, Laurence holed an outrageous pitch at the 15th to put the Baberton duo one up with three to play. After routine par-4s at the 16th, Robb won the next with a par-3 before the last was halved in birdie-4s to give the home team the half-point they needed to secure a spot in the final.

It takes place over the East Course at Dalmahoy on Sunday week.
