Golf: Three and easy from gutsy East

A HAT-TRICK of wins from Royal Musselburgh members helped East foil Mid's bid to make a flying start in this season's Fife and Lothians Golf Associations Winter League.

After beating West away a fortnight ago, Mid had been hoping to make home advantage count in their second outing of the campaign.

But, with the match finely balanced at 3-3, the contribution of those Royal Musselburgh men proved decisive.

David Watters led the way with a big win over Euan Mackay, with Scott Cunningham and Ben McLeod also delivering points at the expense of Lee Morgan and Scott Johnston respectively.

Mark Hillson, who beat Allyn Dick in a battle between two Lothians champions, Stephen Simants and Stephen Neilson also won for the visitors at the top of the order.

The 6-4 success moved East to the top of the table alongside Fife, who won 7-3 at home to West.

Tam Caldwell and Gary Corrigan were the only victors at Lundin for West, who have now lost both their opening games.
