Golf: Teams facing a long shot in Dispatch

COMPETITORS in this year's Evening News Dispatch Trophy could be faced with an even tougher test of nerve playing the final hole at the Braids if a proposal to use a new back tee gets the green light.

The possibility of using the tee, which adds about 20 yards to the length of the hole will be discussed by the event committee on Wednesday, April 27, when the draw for this year's event is made.

Another matter on the agenda for the committee is the possibility of introducing a stroke-play tournament for the clubs knocked out in the opening round. "This came about due to some clubs in the past having expressed concern about paying the entry for one round," said secretary Robin Mutch.

This year's event will tee off on Saturday, May 21, with the semi-finals and final taking place the following Saturday.

Entries close today, though Mutch will, as always, be willing to accommodate late interest. Entries must be submitted to Robin Mutch, Honorary Secretary, Dispatch Trophy, 33 Craiglockhart Terrace, Edinburgh, EH14 1AJ.
