Golf: Tantallon edge out Gullane

GULLANE proved a happy hunting ground for Tantallon for the third time in East Lothian’s County Cup.

They beat the host club by one hole in the final to repeat title triumphs on the same course in 1997 and 2003. The front Gullane pairing of Robert Jack and Alan Smith finished three up against Chris Low and Niall Gemmell. Behind them, Tantallon’s Dean Brock and Fraser Skene arrived on the 18th tee with a three-hole cushion on Duncan Low and Alan Smith.

But Gullane’s hopes of taking the tie into extra holes disappeared as their couple lost a ball and the hole as well – with a 6 to Tantallon’s 5. Tantallon beat Bass Rock 2 and 1 in their semi-final while Gullane won 4 and 3 against Bass Rock.
