Golf: Strong field at Whitekirk

ORGANISER Alan Tait has attracted a strong field for the opening event on the new Xltec Pro Golf Tour at Whitekirk tomorrow.

Royal Musselburgh's Kenny Glen will have the honour of striking the circuit's opening blow at the East Lothian course and will be followed on to the tee by a whole host of familiar names.

They include former Scottish amateur champion John Gallagher, ex-European Tour rookie of the year Scott Henderson, former Tartan Tour No.1 Craig Lee and a number of former Scottish PGA champions in Jason McCreadie, Craig Ronald, Chris Kelly and Greig Hutcheon.

Also in the field is rookie pro Wallace Booth, a member of Scotland's Eisenhower Trophy-winning team two years ago.

Flying the Lothians flag in addition to Gallagher are new Musselburgh pro Norman Huguet. Murrayfield's Jonnie Cliff, Mark Kerr of Dalmahoy, Craigielaw's Shaun McAllister, former Ratho Park amateur ace Craig Gordon, Lee Harper of Archerfield Links, Duddingston's Tom Buchanan, Owen Leslie (Edinburgh Leisure), Greenburn's Scott Catlin, James McGhee of Turnhouse and host club pro Paul Wardell.
