Golf: Stephen Gallacher top Scot in world rankings

STEPHEN Gallacher has jumped above Martin Laird to become the top Scot in the world rankings after his latest top-ten European Tour finish.

The 35-year-old, who started the season outside the top 400, is up to 108th after tying for fourth behind Edoardo Molinari in the Barclays Scottish Open.

Laird, who had been the leading Scot since last October, has dropped to 118th, with Richie Ramsay the next Scot on the list at 181st.

Gallacher, who has chalked up four top tens in his last six events, was once as high as 66th after his 2004 win in the Dunhill Links, but tumbled down the rankings last year because of illness. His next target is to break into the top 100 to win a place in next month's USPGA Championship.
