Golf: Scots team unveiled for Royal St David's

BOYS INTERNATIONALS: The teams have been announced for next week's Boys Home Internationals at Royal St David's, Harlech, North Wales. The event, contested by the best players aged 18 or under from England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales, takes place from Tuesday 2 to Thursday 4 August.

Ireland defend the R&A Trophy which they won for the second time in three years at Southerness last August. They take on Wales in their opening match on Tuesday, while Scotland take on England. Each fixture will comprise five morning foursomes followed by ten afternoon singles.

UNDER 21 GIRLS: Stirling student Kelsey MacDonald won the Scottish Under-21 girls' stroke-play championship for a record fourth year in a row by a margin of six strokes at Cardross Golf Club yesterday.

Nairn Dunbar GC member Kelsey came into the tournament on a low, having just failed to be among the 18 qualifiers at Panmure for the Ricoh British Women's Open championship at Carnoustie.

That may explain her opening round of one-over-par 75 in the junior women's championship which left her joint eighth. But Kelsey covered the remaining 36 holes in eight-under-par with a pair of 70s for a seven-under-par winning total of 215.

The tournament surprise was Nichola Ferguson from Clober who finished second on 221 with scores of 75, 73 and 73.

US TOUR: Zimbabwean Brendon de Jonge held the clubhouse lead last night at the Greenbrier Classic at White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, after carding a second-round 67.

The 30-year-old took advantage of the perfect conditions to move onto seven-under-par at the halfway stage of the tournament as he picked up back-to-back birdies on the fourth and fifth as well as at the 16th and 17th, dropping a shot on the par-four 11th.

American duo Michael Letzig and Scott Stallings also enjoyed successful second rounds, both reaching the clubhouse on five-under-par after they shot rounds of 66 and 65 respectively. Londoner Brian Davis recovered from a first round 71 to card a second-round score of six-under-par and move within two shots of De Jonge's clubhouse lead.

Scotland: Anthony Blaney (Liberton); Eamon Bradley (Mount Ellen); Grant Forrest (Craigielaw); Daniel Hendry (UAE); Josh Jamieson (St Andrews New); Liam Johnston (Dumfries and County); Greig Marchbank (Dumfries and County); Jack McDonald (Kilmarnock (Barassie)); Bradley Neil (Blairgowrie); Craig Ross (Kirkhill); Ewan Scott (St Andrews); Stuart Wilson (Non-playing captain)
