Golf: Scots lose out

SCOTLAND will be empty-handed when the European Team Championships conclude tomorrow after the men's medal chances were killed off in Portugal.

Captained by Kingsknowe's Scott Knowles, the Scots led Germany 2-0 after the morning foursomes at Vilamoura Victoria. But, in a repeat of the 2006 event at Hillside, Germany fought back to win four out of five the singles to snatch a 4-3 triumph.

Ross Kellett lost the decider at the second extra hole, meaning the best Scotland can now finish is fifth.

In second-flight ties, the women beat Switzerland in Austria, but the boys and girls lost to England and Norway.
