Golf: Sally Watson at the head of Scots charge

Lothians golfer Sally Watson was the pick of the Scots on day two of the women's world amateur team championship yesterday but the home hopefuls are still lagging well behind the leaders at the halfway stage in Argentina.

Curtis Cup player Watson reeled off 16 pars and two birdies in a solid two-under 70 at the Buenos Aires club as the three-strong Scotland side posted a one-under 143 for a six-over 294.

Fife's Louise Kenney added a 73 to the tally but Lesley Nicholson's team finished down in 28th spot, a massive 21 strokes behind pacesetters South Korea, who powered to the front with a dazzling 128.

South Korea took centre stage as the emerging stars from the amateur scene sparkled in round two.

Boosted by an eight-under 63 from Ji-Hee Kim and a 65 from Jung-Euan Han, the Koreans, nine strokes off the pace after round one, stormed up the field to finish a stroke ahead of 13-times world champions, the USA, who had a 138.

Title-holders Sweden moved up the order with a nine-under 135 for a 281.
