Golf: Renaissance Club ready for repeat of charity pro-am

THE Renaissance Club in East Lothian hosts the 2010 European Tour Players Foundation Charity Pro-Am on Monday.

The event was staged there for the first time a year ago and director of golf David Armitage is hoping it will be a resounding success once again.

"We are hoping to raise approximately 35,000 for the European Tour Players Foundation and it should be a great day," he said.

Stephen Gallacher is listed to play along with fellow Scots Marc Warren, Alastair Forsyth, Scott Drummond and Stephen McAllister. And they're set to be joined by Benn Barham, Mark Foster, Gary Murphy, Garry Houston, Paul Waring, Sam Walker, Carlos Rodiles, Rafael Cabrera-Bello, Kenneth Ferrie, Richard Finch, Sam Hutsby and Phil Golding.

Meanwhile, other Scots players enjoyed mixed fortunes here and abroad. Grant Forrest won his singles match against Norway's Kristian Johannesen but couldn't stop Great Britain & Ireland slipping to an 8-4 deficit after the opening day of the Jacques Leglise Trophy against the Continent of Europe at Castelconturbia, near Milan.

Raymond Russell was lying join third going into the third round of the SWALEC Wales Challenge. He shot a second-round 68 for 139, three less than Lloyd Saltman after his 72.

Craigielaw's Shaun McAllister tied for 15th in the Veka Network Open, a PGA EuroPro Tour event at Slaley Hall after rounds of 68, 71 and 69. Lee Harper (Archerfield Links) shared 39th on 212 (68, 73 and 71).

And Catriona Matthew is the top British contender after her second-straight level-par round at the CN Canadian Women's Open in Winnipeg while Wales' Becky Morgan is at one over and England's Laura Davies is two over par. Michelle Wie continues to hold a three-shot lead after shooting a three-under-par second round of 69. The American had shot a seven-under-par 65 on the opening day which included a hole in one. She picked up birdies at the fifth and sixth to move to nine under.
