Golf: Recovery bid by Gallacher

Lothians golfer Stephen Gallacher was looking to recapture his rhythm in the second round of the European Tour's Sicilian Open today after being knocked out of his stride in the pre-event Pro-Am.

Top Scot on the Race to Dubai rankings at No 26, Gallacher began his challenge at the Donnafugata club with a level-par 71 and finished six shots behind early leaders Stephen Dodd and Jose Manual Lara, who both hit 65s.

Gallacher had been in fine form ahead of the event with two top-10 finishes in his last three events.

Lloyd Saltman opened with a two-over 73 while Colin Montgomerie, who carded bogeys on his opening two holes, recovered with four birdies to lead the Scottish challenge on 69.
