Golf: More Gullane success for slick Patrick

GULLANE is a happy hunting ground for David Patrick, the current Scottish Young Professionals' champion, in the Edinburgh & East of Scotland Alliance.

The former Mortonhall man, who won the Championship at the East Lothian venue last March, was successful again there yesterday in the John Glen Trophy, the first event of 2011.

He shot a 61 on No 3 to claim the scratch spoils by a single shot from Bathgate's Scott Catlin, followed by Daniel Wood of Eyemouth in third on 63.

Musselburgh's Bill Bonar took the handicap honours, lifting the John Glen Trophy, with a 60. Playing off 14, Bonar finished three shots ahead of Glencorse two-handicapper Andrew Wight, who was a shot better than three players - Neil Bain (Haddington), Grant Skinner (Glencorse) and Justin White (Harrison). Top trainee was Prestonfield's Graham Mackay on 73, with the scratch spoils being shared by the host club's Gordon Bell and Arthur Harper of Dunfermline with net 65s.

After this event, the scratch order of merit is still being headed by Kingsknowe pro Chris Morris on 377 while Lothianburn's George Wither leads the handicap event with 88 points.
