Golf: Matthew far out in Far East

CATRIONA MATTHEW returned home to North Berwick today $69,000 richer after a lucractive fortnight in the Far East.

The Scottish No.1 started her season with two top-ten finishes, the latest coming in the HSBC Women's Champions event in Singapore. She shot closing rounds of 69 and 70 over the weekend to secure eighth spot with a three- under-par total of 285.

Matthew now has a break before going to the United States for the Kia Classic and then the first major of the season, the Kraft Nabisco Championship. "I played well again today," she said of a closing round that contained four birdies.

Australian Karrie Webb won the title in Singapore, her final 69 pipping Japan's Chie Arimura by a shot.
