Golf: MacNiven Trophy date set

TURNHOUSE has been teed up to stage the inaugural Ian MacNiven Trophy in memory of the late Evening News golf correspondent.

The event, to be held on Saturday, 25 September, will take the form of a stroke-play tournament for players 25 and over with a handicap of 12 or less.

It will have a 12 entry fee, with the overall winner being the player with the best scratch score. That person will win a 150 voucher, with other prizes including a 100 voucher for the best net score. The event is part of the 2010 Lothians Golf Association fixture list, the highlight of which is the Lothians Championship. Qualifying for that takes place at Royal Musselburgh and Castle Park on 1 May, with Royal Burgess staging the match-play phase on 3-8 May.
