Golf: Lothians stars into PGA final

WEST LINTON'S Gareth Wright, former Mortonhall man David Patrick and Alan Martin of Dunbar all had reason to be happy after yesterday's Powerade PGA Assistants Championship Scottish Region Qualifier at Auchterarder.

The trio were among those who earned places in the field for the final which will be held at the East Sussex National on 28-30 July, when they will have the chance to win a first prize of 5,000.

Wright, the Scottish Alliance champion, claimed second spot in Perthshire after a four-under-par 65. He's been working on his game with his stepfather, West Linton pro Ian Wright, and said: "It seems to have paid off."

Patrick and Martin also progressed with one-over-par 70s.
