Golf: Liberton hold on to crown

LIBERTON'S junior golfers have been praised for returning to winning ways after suffering a sore experience in Spain earlier in the year.

Junior convenor Robert Ross reckons the Capital club's youngsters were gutted when they finished last in the Junior Team Golf Home Nations Inter-Club Championship in Spain.

But they have put that behind them to retain the South East District Winter League title, hanging on to their crown despite the event taking on a new format this year.

"Ten juniors were used over the winter, coming both from the team that represented Scotland in Murcia and some of the higher handicap juniors looking to break into the Summer League team," said Ross.

"Quite understandably, they are delighted to be back to winning ways after the disappointment in the Home Nations.

"The results seem to have brought the team closer with a determination to return to the top flight as soon as possible."
