Golf: Laing has best finish on Tour

MUSSELBURGH golfer Vikki Laing continued an impressive start to the new season when she clinched her best finish on the Ladies' European Tour with a tie for sixth place after a final round of one over par 73 at the Lalla Meryem Cup in Morocco, writes ELSPETH BURNSIDE.

The 29-year-old had a top 20 finish at last month's ANZ Ladies' Masters in Australia and, this time, she finished four shots behind Germany's Anja Monke, who won her third LET title after a final round 69. Laing was joint second after the first and second rounds and picked up a birdie at the eighth. She picked up more shots at the 13th and 16th but double-bogeys at the 16th and 18th saw her slip backwards.

She still picked up over 5,000 and is now the leading Scot at No.18 on the LET Order of Merit with around 8,000.

Seventeen-year-old Carly Booth, Scotland's youngest ever LET player, had a creditable professional debut by finishing in a tie for 40th place after a closing four-over-par 74. Fifer Krystle Caithness, who is just one place behind Laing at No.19 on the Order of Merit, had an impressive final day. She shot a three under par 69 and moved into the top 15 on one under par.
