Golf: Kerr and Blair on course for a title tussle

CRAIGIELAW'S Willem Kerr and Stuart Blair of Royal Musselburgh are on course for a tasty title showdown in the Lothians Boys' Championship at The Braids.

Both players qualified for the men's equivalent at Broomieknowe last month and have been in good form again so far in this week's event supported by Edinburgh Leisure.

In last night's quarter-finals, Kerr recovered from losing the first to be one up on Gullane's Alexander Wilson at the turn and went on to win 3 and 2.

The prize for him is a semi-final clash tonight with Lewis Bain after the Turnhouse teenager progressed by beating Tantallon's Alasdair Simpson. Bain won three holes in a row from the 11th to go four up only Simpson to rally as he won both the 15th and 16th. He also won the 17th after hitting a tremendous tee shot to three feet only to see his momentum ran out as Bain took the last for a two-hole success.

Blair raced to a five-hole lead after eight against Dunbar's Michael Boddie, who struggled with his driving in the wind, and won 4 and 3.

He now faces Dalmahoy's Callum Cochrane, who beat Baberton's Finlay McCall 5 and 3.
