Golf: Inter-Club experience counts for Baberton

EXPERIENCE triumphed over youth as Baberton beat Broomieknowe in the final to win the Edinburgh Women's Inter-Club tournament for the sixth time in seven years, writes MARTIN DEMPSTER.

Represented by Karen Marshall, Fiona de Vries, Katherine Logan and Fiona Hunter, the Juniper Green club maintained their stranglehold on the title with an impressive performance at Monktonhall.

After surviving a scare when they needed two extra holes to beat Kingsknowe in the quarter-finals, they progressed to the final once again with a 2 and 1 success over Craigmillar Park in the semi-finals.

Broomieknowe, represented by Wendy Nicholson, Hannah Scott, Katherine Anderson and Kate McIntosh, prevented a repeat of the final 12 months earlier when they beat Lothianburn by 6 and 5 in the other half of the draw.

But the Bonnyrigg club were unable to wrest the crown away from Baberton. Marshall and de Vries were three up at the front and Logan and Hunter five up at the back when Broomieknowe's bid ran out of holes.
