Golf: Hutcheon excels with a three-shot Whitekirk win

GREIG Hutcheon eased to victory in the first Xltec Pro Golf Tour event of the season at Whitekirk in East Lothian. The former Scottish PGA champion harnessed the blustery conditions and posted a three-under 69 to win by three shots from fellow Aberdonian Graeme Lornie, PGA Cup player Craig Matheson and rookie professional Wallace Booth.

Hutcheon, a triple champion on the European Challenge Tour, had been two-over after three but covered his remaining holes in five-under to pick up the 800 top prize in a contest reduced to one round because of fog. John Gallagher, Alan Lockhart and Shaun McAllister shared fifth spot on one-over 73s but Craig Lee, last year's Tartan Tour No1, struggled to a 79.
