Golf: Hillson unhappy with play

FORMER Lothians champion Mark Hillson was disappointed after closing rounds of 75 and 77 left him having to settle for a share of 25th in the Scottish Open Stroke Play Championship at Glasgow Gailes, writes MARTIN DEMPSTER.

The Craigielaw player was the only Lothians man to make the cut but he said: "Making cuts isn't enough – it is more important how you play and, unfortunately, I didn't play great in the last two rounds.

"My 75 on Saturday was a good score considering how badly I hit it and, although I hit it a bit better in the closing round, my putting let me down."

The Glen's Neil Henderson (78, 70) and James Ross (75, 73) of Royal Burgess came closest to joining Hillson in the last two rounds at Gailes.

But they made an early exit along with Craigielaw's Myles Cunningham (75, 75), Glencorse's Sean McGarvey (78, 74), Dunbar's Zander Culverwell (78, 76) and Dalmahoy's Tom Blennerhasset (82, 78).

Mortonhall's Greg Nicolson was disqualified after missing his second-round tee time after taking three-and-a-half hours to get to Ayrshire due to traffic.
