BROOMIEKNOWE'S Kate McIntosh, who almost didn't play in the event after being sick all day on Saturday, won the girls' section in the fourth and last SGU Under-16 Winter Series competition at Troon Darley yesterday.

She shot a three-over-par 75 over the Ayrshire municipal course to win by two shots from Minto's Tara McTaggart and Ailsa Summers of Carnoustie Ladies.

North Berwick's Clara Young was joint fourth on 78.

In the boys' event, The Glen's Euan Bowden was pipped for the top spot by a single shot, Ben Kinsley of St Andrews claiming the spoils with a level-par 71.

Tantallon's Calum Hill finished joint-fifth on 77, four less than Craigielaw's Willem Kerr.
