Golf: Duddingston hail their taxi buggy deal

EDINBURGH'S largest taxi company and one of the Capital's top golf clubs have concluded a major sponsorship deal with an interesting twist.

City Cabs of Edinburgh and Duddingston, in conjunction with First Display Advertising, have converted Duddingston's four Club Car buggies into fake cabs - complete with "Taxi" lights.

"Most golf clubs are looking to sponsorship as an avenue to help offset the loss of falling memberships and, at Duddingston, we feel that high standards must be retained at all times," said club captain Gavin Clark.

"This professional conversion from First Display does exactly that and, at the same time, gives the membership a novelty feeling when driving the buggies around the course."

The arrangement is believed to be the first of its kind in Scotland. Meanwhile, Duddingston have launched a new membership category "in a bid to encourage a family atmosphere back into the club". The husband and wife/civil partnership membership involves a joint joining fee of 400 that is payable over two years with an annual subscription of just over 700.
