Golf: Dispatch team-mates Robertson and Reilly make Turnhouse final

GRAHAM ROBERTSON has a familiar face standing between him and a successful defence of the Turnhouse Open title.

His opponent in tonight's final is fellow Turnhouse and Silverknowes member Keith Reilly, the pair having been winning team-mates for the latter in the Dispatch Trophy.

In the opening semi-final last night, Robertson beat Lewis Bain, the host club's rising star, in a closely-contested encounter. Robertson seized the early initiative with birdies at the opening two holes, but Bain fought back to level terms with birdies at the 13th and 15th.

However, the more seasoned campaigner rallied to win the 17th with a par-3 and that proved decisive as the last was halved in birdie-4s. In the other match, Reilly also had to dig deep to win an all-Silverknowes showdown against Tam Caldwell. Reilly was down early on and again after the 10th before squaring things with a birdie-2 at the 11th.

They then swapped birdies at the 13th and 14th before Reilly edged in front for the first time thanks to a par at the penultimate hole and held his advantage with the last halved in 5s.

In the handicap finals, Ian Randall (Silverknowes) plays Scott Murray (Harburn) and Bobby Doig (Silverknowes) meets John Rooney (Turnhouse).
