Golf: Dispatch entry goes up this year

FIFTY-EIGHT teams - three more than last year - will go into the hat when the draw for the 112th Evening News Dispatch Trophy is made tonight.

Returning to the popular team event at the Braids after a lengthy absence is The Scotsman while the entry also includes three new teams.

They are Network Cooling Golfing Society, Kilgour Wealth Management and Kilgour Private Clients, the latter two having become first-time entries through former winner Stuart Johnston.

This year's event will tee off on Saturday, May 21, with the semi-finals and final taking place the following Saturday.

Silverknowes ended Carrickvale's three-year winning run last year but it seems unlikely that the triumphant quartet will be returning to defend the trophy with Paul Heggie replacing Paul Ross and joining Tam Caldwell, Graham Robertson and Keith Reilly. Carrickvale will be without Lothians champion Allyn Dick because of a clash with the Scottish Open Stroke-play Championship.

The draw takes place at the Merchants and will be published in tomorrow's Evening News.
