Golf: Captain fantastic ..

GULLANE Golf Club has held its inaugural Captain's Charity Day in aid of two charities, the Gullane Day Centre and Macmillan Cancer Support.

Forty teams played and just under 16,000 was raised for the charities chosen by club captain James Coutts. "This first Captain's Charity event has been a huge success," said Coutts. "We are indebted to those who have supported the event either by taking a team, making a donation, sponsoring a hole or buying a raffle ticket.

"I am extremely hopeful that this event will become a bi-annual event in the Gullane calendar."

Eric March, chairman of the Gullane Day Centre, said: "We are moving to new purpose-built facilities in 2012 and fund-raising to ensure that the standard of facilities and activities is maintained. The funds raised will go a long way towards achieving this."
