Golf: Bain to face Cochrane in Braids final

TURNHOUSE'S Lewis Bain and Callum Cochrane of Dalmahoy will contest tonight's final of the Lothians Boys' Championship at The Braids.

Bain beat Craigielaw's Willem Kerr in last night's semi-finals while Cochrane was an impressive 3 and 2 winner against Stuart Blair of Royal Musselburgh.

With a ding-dong match all square after nine, Bain went two up at the 13th but lost the 14th following a wayward drive. Kerr three-putted the 15th to lose that, but Bain found gorse off the tee with his iron shot at the 16th and lost the hole.

Kerr was 50 feet away with his tee shot at the 17th but holed the monster putt to get back to all square.

Both boys hit poor drives off the last tee with Kerr catching a gorse bush up the left. He had to take a penalty drop and despite hitting a good third shot to about 18 feet he could only manage a 5. Bain held his nerve and although he hit a poor first putt past the hole he managed to negotiate the five-footer back to win the match.

The other match remained all square until Cochrane birdied the 11th to go one up. He then won the 13th and 14th but Blair won the 15th before Cochrane closed out the match at the 16th with a par 4.
