Golf: Argentina adventure for Watson

Lothians golfer Sally Watson was playing her part in Scotland's word team title tilt at the Espirito Santo Trophy in Buenos Aires, Argentina, today.

The Curtis Cup player, who qualified for July's US Women's Open at Oakmont, was teeing up in the opening round alongside Scottish champion Kelsey MacDonald and Dunfermline school teacher Louise Kenney in the biennial strokeplay event.

Skippered by Haddington's Lesley Nicholson, the Scots are aiming to end the year on a high after claiming bronze in the European Team championship and winning the Home Internationals for the first time since 1991 last month.

Nicholson said: "There's absolutely no reason why we can't win the title. This has been a super year for Scotland's amateur women and I think we will do really well."

Meanwhile, back on home soil, Dunbar's Neil Fenwick and Paul McKechnie of Braid Hills led the local challenge in round one of the Tartan Tour's 10,000 Sprint to St Andrews Final at the Duke's course.

The duo both hit one-over 72s to share fifth spot, three shots behind the in-form Chris Doak, who moved into pole position for his second title in a row following his victory in the Gleneagles Scottish PGA championship.
