Golf: Anderson's double bid in tatters

SCOTLAND international Allyn Dick has killed off Alan Anderson's hopes of a dream double in Lothians golf.

The Bruntsfield Links man already had the Lothians Championship and had his sights set on adding the Champion of Champions crown.

He had home advantage for a fourth-round clash with Dick, but the Kingsknowe man overcame that obstacle to record a 3 and 2 win.

Dick's reward is a last eight-clash with Whitekirk's Weston Main, who progressed with a 4 and 3 win over Sandy Scott (Observers). Dalmahoy's Steven Smith crashed out to Mike Robson of the Braids.

Robson now meets Graham Robertson at Turnhouse after last year's Lothians Order of Merit winner moved into the next round with a 3 and 1 over Niddry Castle's Hugh Fraser.

Four-time winner Keith Nicholson is also through to the last eight, as is former Scotland star Stephen Easingwood.

Easingwood beat Musselburgh youngster Cameron Marr. The Bank of Scotland man now faces Royal Musselburgh's Kevin Connachan, who progressed with a thumping win over Cliff Lightband (Register House).
