Glover, Holmes to make first appearances at Loch Lomond

LUCAS Glover, the defending champion at this week's US Open, and the big-hitting JB Holmes will both be joining Masters winner Phil Mickelson in a strong American contingent at next month's Barclays Scottish Open at Loch Lomond.

Glover, the world No 21, and Holmes, who played in the winning US Ryder Cup side at Valhalla two years ago, will both be making their first appearances in the 3 million event.

"I've heard great things about the tournament and the golf course, so I'm excited about experiencing them first hand," said Glover, who pipped Mickelson for the US Open title at Bethpage Black last year.

Holmes, a two-time PGA Cup winner, added: "I can't wait to experience the atmosphere which is always present in front of the wonderful Scottish fans."

Heath Slocum, winner of last year's Barclays Championship, a FedEx Cup event, has also confirmed he'll be playing for the first time at Loch Lomond – where Tom Lehman is returning in a bid to repeat his 1997 triumph.

"Loch Lomond is one of my favourite golf courses in the world, and the Scottish Open one of my favourite tournaments," said Lehman, who recently won the Senior PGA Championship. "There is nowhere I'd rather be each year in early July."

Fred Funk, another US Champions Tour winner, and rising PGA Tour star Nick Watney, who will be bidding to build on his tied sixth finish on his debut appearance last year, are other Americans in the field, while colourful Colombian Camilo Villegas is also making the trip.

The world No 15 will be making his second visit to Loch Lomond, having finished in a tie for 20th place behind winner Martin Kaymer of Germany on his maiden appearance last year.

"I really enjoyed my first visit to the Barclays Scottish Open last year – it was a great week on a fantastic golf course," said Villegas.

"I'm delighted to be returning this year, and I would love to add my name to the impressive list of past champions."

This year's tournament runs from 8-11 of July.
