Glasgow test for Exiles

Scottish Exiles will meet undefeated Glasgow tonight in the Inter-District Championship at Burnbrae (kick-off 7pm). Having squeezed past champions Caledonia in January, Exiles vying for professional contracts will be keen to catch the eye on their return to the championship.

Exiles coach Alastair McHarg believes he has a viable source for the SRU to draw from. "If we had our full squad there would be at least ten candidates, real Scots who happen to be living elsewhere, not the mercenaries drawn by the whiff of international rugby," said McHarg.

The visitors will include Scotland A cap Nick Broughton, ex-Edinburgh winger Ally McLean, and Campbell Aitken, the former Heriot’s, Boroughmuir and Glasgow Hawks full-back.

More intriguing are the "unknown" Exiles, though the fact that Carl Houston was in the Wakefield side who beat Moseley on Saturday, and Andy Craig scored in Orrell’s win over London Welsh, indicates their pedigree.

Champions Caledonia travel to Kelso to face Scottish Border Reivers having lost their opening two games against Exiles and Glasgow.

The Borders team has been hit by a series of call-offs, and Hawick youngsters Scott MacLeod, Colin Murray and Gavin Douglas all make their district debuts.
