Glasgow Hawks 41 - 15 West of Scotland: Hawks power past neighbours

On A day of upsets there was no surprise at Old Anniesland where Hawks, as expected, powered past their neighbours who had a new coach, Keith Robertson, and several players stepping up to Premiership intensity.

It was all over by half-time with Hawks four tries to the good but to their credit West kept their heads up in the second half and scored two tries of their own as Hawks increased their bag to six.

All but one of them fell to the brothers Gossman - winger Kerr had three and older sibling full back Craig a pair - and Hawks will be glad that Kerr, who is an elite development player with Glasgow, is available through to December.

They will however miss the man who pulled the strings at No 10, Mike Adamson who will withdraw in early autumn to the Commonwealth Games Sevens Squad. The other Hawks try was picked up by Nico Nyemba, with Adamson kicking three conversions while Andy White added one and a penalty.

West's scorers were Mark Jenkinson and Alex Fisken with Conor Davis adding the kicks.

Home coach Peter Wright said: "We took our foot off the gas a little but we've won the first game for the first time since long enough - and with a bit of style."

"We didn't play with any intensity in the first half," Robertson said. "We deserved what we got."
