Glasgow appear to have ended up with the shortest straw, having been placed in a group which contains newly-crowned European champions Toulouse, along with Wasps and Newport Gwent Dragons.

Edinburgh were drawn as the third-tier team for the first time, but their assignment looks as difficult as ever as they face Cardiff Blues, Northampton and Castres.

Glasgow captain Alastair Kellock looked to the positives as he reacted to the draw. "We want to be testing ourselves against the best and in the group we've got we can definitely do that," said the Scotland internationalist.

"Winning at Toulouse in 2009 was one of the real high points for us over the last few seasons and everybody is really excited about the opportunity to go back there."

Edinburgh head coach Rob Moffat said: "There's no such thing as an easy or favourable pool. I'm really looking forward to it."
