Glasgow 2014: Bowls session report

A STONKING, nutty win for bowling gold medal favourites Paul Foster and Alex Marshall against South Africa in evening sessions pairs had the crowd a-whooping and a-hollering at Kelvingrove last night.

Trailing four shots entering the final end, they claimed five shots with some brilliant bowling to saltire waving and cries of “get in there” from an ecstatic home crowd, who ended their evening’s entertainment punching the air in celebration as the Scots left their opponents Jason Evans and Gerry Baker dejected.

Meanwhile, a first Scots bowling medal was assured after the para-sports mixed pair Robert Conway and Irene Edgar held off Australia 18-14 in the twilight of Glasgow’s west end to assure themselves at least silver. And in the women’s singles, Scotland’s Caroline Brown continued her medal charge after banking a place in the quarter-finals in posting a fine 21-8 win over Bernice McGreal of Isle of Man.
