Girvan breezed past Golspie Sutherland in this delayed rain-soaked Scottish Cup second round replay. The Ayrshire junior outfit will now travel to face Third Division neighbours Stranraer in the third round of the competition.

The hosts went in front 23 minutes in having dominated the opening period.

Golspie defender Aaron Christie clipped the heels of Michael Moffat in the penalty area and after referee Bobby Madden had pointed to the penalty spot, Tony Murphy stepped up to stroke home from 12 yards.

Girvan added their second goal three minutes before the interval as George Wallace cut the ball back from the by-line on the right for full back Scott McGilp to drill a low effort beyond Golspie goalkeeper Michael McCallum at the near post.

The visitors looked to use the strong wind at their backs in the second half to launch a fight back but they were reduced to 10 men with 55 minutes on the clock. A last-man foul on Wallace by Jordan Sutherland saw him receive his marching orders.

The central defender took his side's hopes of progression up the tunnel with him as Girvan took advantage of the extra man and secured their passage into the next round with a third goal on 78 minutes.

Moffat raced to the by-line on the right and clipped the ball across for the unmarked Wallace to nod in at the back post.

It could have been more for the home side but McCallum made a superb sprawling save to his right from another Murphy penalty on 86 minutes after Darren Pullen had fouled substitute Craig Harvey in the box.

However, Girvan completed the long-travelling visitors' misery in the final minute.

Stuart Wilson put Harvey in on goal and he smashed a powerful drive beyond the despairing glove of McCallum from the right edge of the six-yard box.
