Galloway tips tight win to be a turning point for Freuchie

NEWLY-APPOINTED skipper Scott Galloway believes the tense and narrow victory over West Lothian can act as a springboard to a Freuchie revival.

Scotland's most famous club side have been wallowing in the doldrums, but the captain is convinced the omens are bright.

In the wake of the two-run success at Muir Road, Galloway declared: "This was a terrific confidence boost. Last season we were losing matches as close as this and the belief level was low. Now I think we can begin to take Freuchie to where they used to be – and where they should be."

Galloway added: "It was a great game and very exciting at the end. West Lothian needed six off the last three balls, but thankfully Scott Gourley kept it tight when it mattered most."

Earlier, the "coo" clan – dad David Cowan and son Dale – combined to set up what was to prove the winning total.

Dale hit 62 and David 32 to guide the Fifers to 221 for eight, then the village attack prevented any of the West Lothian batsmen from getting past the 40-mark.

Elsewhere, title front-runners Corstorphine and Dumfries made it two wins out of two by snuffing out the respective challenges of Imans Edinburgh and Renfrew.

And there was a huge sigh of relief in the ranks of fallen giants Ferguslie, who crushed Weirs at Albert Park.

Veteran bowler Richard Rutnagur was the prime hero with a cheap five-wicket haul, while youngster David Stafford hit 70.

Matt Coyle and Andrew Brock shared an eight-scalp haul to propel SMRH to glory against troubled Kelburne.
