Gallacher lends his foundation’s weight to Lothians’ newest event

A NEW event on the Lothians fixture list has been given the seal of approval by European Tour star Stephen Gallacher.

His foundation, which has gone from strength to strength since it was launched earlier this year, was the main sponsor of the Lothians Under-16,
Under-14 and Under-12 Championships over Gullane No. 3.

Staging the event was an idea hatched by Iain McLean, the Gullane junior convenor, and subsequently developed by the Lothians Golf Association. The Stephen Gallacher Foundation donated the three trophies, while vouchers for the winners were provided by Leisure Times Sports Shop in
Haddington.

Gallacher was able to attend the event himself, while his son Jack played in the Under-12 event. He was among 77
players taking part overall and while that was a decent start it is hoped more will play next year.

Rising Dalmahoy star Murray Naismith won the Under-16 event, while Kilspindie’s Ben Stirling topped the Under-14 leaderboard. In doing so, they have both earned spots in the field for the Stephen Gallacher Race to Dunbar event at the end of next month.

The CSS in both those sections was 66, two more than the Under-12 event, which was won by Royal Musselburgh’s Aaron Hall.
