Galashiels lift cup thanks to Robertson

Galashiels Academy 22 - 17 Robert Gordon's College

GALASHIELS Academy won a highly entertaining Bell Lawrie under-15 Scottish Schools Cup final at Murrayfield last night thanks to an inspired performance from scrum-half Craig Robertson.

Two tries from the elusive No9 added to a score by winger Ian Dawtry gave the Borderers victory.

Galashiels started the strongest in front of an impressive crowd at the National Stadium, but it was the Aberdonians who took a shock lead, as Oliver Taylor pounced on a loose ball in his own 22 to run nearly 70 metres. From that point onwards, it was all Galashiels. Tries from Dawtry and Robertson put them in front.

Gregor Hunter added a penalty before the break as Galashiels' pace and power threatened to take the game away from their opponents.

The second half was played at a similar high pace but with defences dominant. Try as they might, Robert Gordon's could not get across the Borderers' line again, while Robertson added Galashiels third try.
