Froch's Super Six bid in doubt over venue

CARL Froch's ongoing participation in the Super Six tournament has been plunged into serious doubt after it was confirmed there is no agreement for his next fight to be staged in Britain.

Froch must defeat scoreboard leader Arthur Abraham to progress to the semi-finals after losing his WBC super-middleweight title to Mikkel Kessler in Denmark on Saturday night.

The 32-year-old claimed he was the victim of a hometown decision and is ready to quit the competition if his next contest is staged in Germany.

His promoter Mick Hennessy claims to have an arrangement that the fight, pencilled in for 21 August, would be staged in the UK. But Sauerland Events – who promote both Kessler and Abraham – released a statement yesterday suggesting Froch will have to fight overseas once again.

"Contrary to what Mick Hennessy stated after the fight on Saturday, there is no agreement – neither written nor verbal – about the fight venue," said Wilfried Sauerland.

"The tournament contracts imply that the Abraham-Froch fight should take place on European territory or wherever it makes the most commercial sense for everyone involved.

"I would prefer it to be on neutral territory. If this cannot be done, we should go for the best commercial option. We will get back to the negotiating table with Mick Hennessy to find a solution that suits either side."

Froch, who fought Kessler with a perforation of his eardrum, lost with scores of 117-111, 115-113 and 116-112. He sits third in the Super Six table with one win and one defeat.
