Freya Murray chasing a GB vest

CAPITAL ace Freya Murray (Edinburgh AC) bids to cap a marvellous cross country season by capturing the Inter-Counties title at Cofton Park, Birmingham tomorrow.

The Scottish and South African champion, who was runner-up recently in the Fukuoka International in Japan, is targeting one of the three automatic places in the British team for the World Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland in two weeks.

And, with European champion Hayley Yelling a possible non-starter due to a recent illness, Murray could well be in contention for the title as well.

Her main rival tomorrow will probably be fellow Scot Steph Twell, who captured the English title impressively last month from surprise runner-up Stevie Stockton (Cheshire) with Hatti Dean (Yorks) third, and the latter two will obviously be contenders for the team spots as should be another Anglo-Scot Laura Kenney, who is a previous title winner.

Backing up Murray in the team race for the East will be her clubmates Jennifer McLean and Sarah Hood. Kate Jenkins (Hunter's Bog Trotters) also competes.

Andrew Crichton (EAC) goes in the men's Under-20 race while Ross Matheson (Lasswade), is two points ahead of Josh Grace (Surrey) in the McCain UK Cross Challenge under-17 standings.
