Freuchie seek Mahsood spark at Kelburne

FREUCHIE are hoping new pro Junaid Mahsood will have completed his acclimatisation process by tomorrow as they bid to sidestep an unwanted Paisley double.

The Pakistani seamer made his debut in last week's tense and narrow home defeat by Ferguslie. Now they find themselves preparing for a potentially hazardous tussle with Kelburne at Whitehaugh.

Freuchie skipper Scott Galloway believes that when Mahsood finds his rhythm he will be a handful for even the most talented batsmen.

He said: "He is really, really quick and he will spark some real fear.

"He tended to bowl a bit short last weekend, but that was to be expected because he is used to playing on harder surfaces back in Pakistan where the ideal length is different.

"The lad has settled in really well at the club and one of his great attributes is that he always has a smile on his face.

"He has already made his mark on the coaching side, both with the kids and the experienced guys in the senior squad.

"We are also looking forward to seeing him in full flight with the bat. He boasts a first class average of almost 20 – but it is in the shorter game that he seems to have caught the eye.

"He hits a long ball and has opened the batting as a pinch-hitter in the Pakistani domestic one-day tournaments.

"His duel with Kelburne pro David Harper is sure to be intriguing this weekend and we are hoping he will help us dodge another defeat by a Paisley team."

Ferguslie will be fancied to maintain their revival run with a win against local rivals Renfrew at Meikleriggs.
