Fraser on Fishing: Rosslynlee's fighting fish helped to keep me warm

JUST when I thought the big freeze was over we were hit with another foot of snow in places.

Not wanting to venture far from home, I found to my amazement that Rosslynlee on the outskirts of Rosewell was open and, more importantly, fishing well.

I decided to stick with a midge tip line with a long leader and a single lure.

The road shore was definitely the best area and the fish were taking anything you could throw at them from Yellow Dancers to Bloodworms.

The fish were in excellent condition and fought well despite the cold and the hardest part was staying warm and keeping my concentration going.

Fishing roughly 6-8 feet sub surface on a very slow, almost static, retrieve, the takes were soft but subtle.

I managed to get my limit bag from three different areas with the best coming from under the dam wall in deeper water.

Although fish came to different flies, it was a Black Dancer that got the most attention.

Most anglers were on fast-sinking lines and some big fish were taking bigger lures.
