Fraser on Fishing: Romance of angling all too often gone with the wind

Those that ventured out did get fish but they had to work for them. The water was very cloudy so anglers had to place their flies within a short distance of the fish if they were to be successful.

The dam wall on the main pond was holding a big head of fish and Buzzers and Cormorants were the best tactics. Casting was an absolute nightmare and a few headed to the smaller pond for some shelter.

I decided to stay with the main pond and was rewarded with a nice fish of under 4lb on an orange Blob of all things.

Casting out as far as I could then letting it sink and swing round in the wind was to be my favoured method. Despite only getting one fish to the net I had umpteen offers. As the day wore on, more and more decided that it was time to retire as the wind grew in strength. Reports from the smaller pond had good fish getting caught in the last half hour of the session. But staying to that time was beyond me and I called it a day.

The fishery has some good fish but they were keeping a low profile when I was there. But that's fishing - some you win, some you lose.
