Fraser on fishing: Competitions will help dispel those winter blues

With the worst of the winter weather behind us (fingers crossed) it is competition time yet again.

From next Saturday, February 12, Leadburn Manor are kicking off the popular catch and release singles. Lunch is included with the entry as well as some prize money to the lucky winners.

The fishery is looking good now and is up and running at full capacity. The water was stocked heavily before the big freeze with double figure brown trout introduced. Contact Fran at the fishery on 07775 812 794.

Next month is the start of the fund raisers and the Scottish Disabled Team are hosting a match at the New Watch Fishery. Entry is 25 plus a 10 donation to the cause.

The top prize is 100 with several others to be won and the chance to win one of the many raffle prizes. It is a three-fish ticket then catch and release thereafter. Lunch will be provided and fishing is from boat and bank so it is advisable to book in advance. Contact Scott or Bill on 0770 325 955 or myself on 07725 048122.

I was at Howwood fishery at weekend and my best of the four caught crossed the scales at 4lb - not bad by any means. Best place is by the Dam Wall.
