Four Scots in GB team for Ostrava event

FOUR Scots have been named in a 42-strong Aviva Great Britain and Northern Ireland team for next month’s European Under-23 Championships.

Eilish McColgan, based in Dundee, will compete in the 3,000m steeplechase in Ostrava in the Czech Republic, while Lynsey Sharp of Edinburgh goes in the 800m.

Giffnock’s David Smith will go for glory in the high jump and Jamie Bowie of Inverness has been included in the 4x400m relay squad.

Team leader John Herbert said: “The European Under-23 Championships is a valuable opportunity and great career stepping stone for our athletes.

“We’ve selected a strong, quality team, and we believe that every athlete is capable of achieving a top-five performance.”

Meanwhile, world junior champion Jodie Williams is one of 23 athletes selected for the Aviva Great Britain and Northern Ireland junior team at the 18th Bauhaus Junioren Gala in Mannheim, Germany on 2-3 July.
