Forumla 1: Paul Di Resta out for points on emotional return to Germany

Two weeks after a botched pitstop wrecked potentially his best Formula One race of the year after qualifying sixth at Silverstone, Bathgate's Paul di Resta was in Germany today for the Practice session.

And for the 25-year-old Scot, it's a return to Germany for the first time since he dominated last year's DTM Championship with Mercedes-Benz.

"It's going to be fantastic," Di Resta said today. "Racing here in F1 as reigning DTM champ is a big deal, so it's going to be another big race for me.

"Although I've been to the Nurburgring quite a few times I've actually never raced on the full grand prix track; we always used the shortened version for the DTM races, so I only know parts of the track."

And Di Resta is confident his Force India team have rectified the communication problems which led to the embarrassing pitstop at Silverstone - when the Scot stopped his car, his crew had the wrong tyres lined up for him.

"It was just one of those things," Di Resta, who lost a race-wrecking 30 seconds during the extended stop, admitted, "but I'm confident the issue has been dealt with and it won't happen again."

After scoring points in the opening two races of the season, the Scot has now failed to score in the subsequent seven grands prix. But he is determined to get back into the top ten in this weekend's German Grand Prix.

"We know the car's fast enough," he continued.

Meanwhile, world championship leader Sebastian Vettel is aiming for a home victory as he looks to extend his already dominant 80-point lead over his nearest rival, Red Bull team-mate Mark Webber. Vettel has won six of the opening nine grands prix.
