Former Wallaby Cameron dies

FORMER Australian rugby captain Alan Cameron has died aged 80.

Cameron played 20 Tests for the Wallabies, mostly at lock, between 1951 and 1958. He made his Test debut aged 21 against the All Blacks in 1951 and played 19 consecutive internationals in the next seven seasons.

Cameron captained Australia in four Tests, beginning with the second Test of the Wallabies’ 1955 series against the All Blacks in New Zealand.

He led Australia to an upset 8-3 victory over the All Blacks in the third Test at Auckland and in two Tests the following season against South Africa.
